OUR HISTORY

In 2015, a group of area residents from Wayne and Duplin Counties worked together to establish the Rones Chapel Area Community Center (RCACC) as a non-profit organization to serve the area with a multi-purpose community center.

A Board of Directors was established in that September. During its early meetings, while incorporation was being completed, the Board outlined mission, vision, bylaws, and primary service area. It was determined that RCACC would strive to have its programs reach as many people as possible by keeping its offerings free or low-cost to the greatest extent possible.

RCACC negotiated to use Cobb School as its home facility beginning March 1, 2016. Cobb School is a circa 1920 one-room school built on land specifically donated for education in 1911.  Since it's closure as an operating school in the 1950s, it has been preserved for community use.

With the support of volunteers and start-up grants, the site was prepared for RCACC's official opening on June 1, 2016, celebrated with a Grand Opening event to introduce the center to the area.

We continue to work on programs to meet needs and add value in the area as we move toward sustainable operations with an active volunteer program, a strong sponsorship program, and loyal sustaining donors.

Help us continue growing and serving our community by donating today!
